Staff made a recent change to author bylines. There must be two authors who have each publiched a post on the blog for a byline to display. More here including a workaround for single author blogs http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/01/03/wordpress-com-changes-bylines-for-authors/

I am using the vigilence theme and my posts (homepage and single) do not display the author byline "by ______." I am wondering why. I have my user profile configured right. I've seen the post on which themes show the byline and which ones don't. As far as I can tell, it should be there. I read that some themes only show the author when there is more than one author posting. Could that be the case here?

I'd be most appreciative if someone might be able to give me some clues.
Much obliged.

Thanks - really helpful and partly what I suspected. The link is very useful. I understand about formatting a text widget - but how could I use the Flickr widget with a text widget (for instance?)

Hi. That's how the theme Vigilance is made actually. The sidebar is so wide because it can be replaced with two small sidebars (or you can have both). So, I can think of the following solutions:
- You could use the two small sidebars instead of the wide one to try to balance it out
- You could replace the widgets with a text widget that has center alignment, as explained here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/formatting-text-pt-1/
However that would involve lots of manual work, especially for the blogroll widget
- You could select another theme with a narrower sidebar
- You could perhaps change the default alignment if you have the CSS upgrade and you know CSS language

Your blog looks fine in FF 3.0.7 with Mac, but I've been noticing a growing number of blogs recently that have massive amounts of HTML errors showing up in the W3C validator, and yours is one of those. W3C reports 477 errors on your main page but none of them are the typical errors that will mess up the display of the blog.

If I were you, I would contact staff and have them take a look at things for you. http://support.wordpress.com/contact/
