On my company's wordpress site (not associated with my username), I'm very limited in the design choices for my content. I cant really change the font (except the to make something a heading), I can't change text color or size, and I can't easily control where images on the page appear. I used Word to create what I want one of my pages to look like, so I'm wondering how I can transfer this onto my wordpress. Pasting from word looses all the formatting on the text and I can't get the SmartArt I created to transfer at all.

If I save the word doc as a webpage, can I do something with it? I know I can embed a word doc but I don't want people to have to follow a second link to access the content.

Help appreciated! Thanks!

Hi there,
The blog looks fine in IE8 and as IE9 and IE10 are the most recent versions note that IE7 is not supported and has not been for over a year now.

If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.

If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:

1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:

Hi guys,

I've been blogging on a Mac and was recently made aware that my blog looks horrible when visited on IE!
I've read threads on images disappearing and text looking odd, but I can't even see my text!

I don't paste text from Word - I noticed that could've been a problem. I write directly in the text box WordPress provides.

Any help??

Thanks.

Connor,

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the "Typewriter From Hell" font is available through TypeKit (the service WordPress uses for their fonts in the Custom Design package.)

As thesacredpath mentioned, you can specify any font that you want in your CSS, but if the visitor doesn't have it installed on their own computer it will display a fallback font instead. Since "Typewriter From Hell" isn't a standard font on most computers, the majority of your visitors would probably see the fallback font instead.

If you have any additional questions, or if you'd like me to elaborate on anything, please let me know!

Thank you for the quick replies! The font I would like to use is
' Typewriter From Hell'. I tried searching for it on the custom design upgrade preview and the website which hosts the fonts for word press but was unable to find it. I downloaded it to my computer if that's what you mean so I could use it in Word and think it would go great on my blog. I'm not great with the whole code thing but I am a first learner so if there is a way I could learn how to do it. it would just save a lot of time if there was an easier way and if everyone who visited my site would be able to see it. Once again thanks for the quick reply, you guys are fast! Connor

The Custom Design upgrade allows you to choose from a pretty wide variety of fonts for your blog. You can learn more about it here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/

You can also preview the fonts by logging into your Dashboard, and navigating to Appearance > Custom Design > Fonts.

What is the font name?

What you should know about fonts and the web is that a browser pulls fonts from a users computer. Typically there are several fonts that are specified in the theme files, and if the first is not installed on the user's computer, then the next will be tried, and on down the line. If none of the fonts exist on the user's computer, then the browser will use the standard serif or sans-serif font that is part of the browser program.

So if someone went to your site, and did not have the font you want to use on their computer, they would not see that font, but one of the others in the font stack in the theme files, or the fall-back serif or sans-serif font in the browser.

At any rate, it would require you to purchase the custom design upgrade (if you do not have it already) and then either modify the CSS and add the font that perhaps others would not have on their computer, or possibly find something similar through the custom fonts that is part of the custom design upgrade.

You could, using HTML, specify the font on a post by post or page by page basis, but again if someone does not have that font, they are not going to see it.

Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page can be done by coding into the HTML editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the whole blog requires purchasing an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and using Typekit Fonts with Staff support. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

Painlessly and easily and free of charge - I'm sorry but the answer is no unless you are into coding.

Hi, I recently started a blog and am pretty new to wordpress. I pasted my posts/pages from word where they were previously written, thing is some of them were in Calibri and others in Times New Roman. I had no idea that text pasted from word also copies the font type to wordpress, I thought all the different fonts would be changed to whatever font wordpress/the theme uses.

Is there any way to painlessly change the font type of the entire post to either Times new Roman or Calibri? I tried changing it in word and copying the paragraphs in the new font into the post editor but some times it worked, other times it didn't (this inconsistency is baffling). Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want to have to have to start from scratch and put all the images and links in the posts again just because I want to change the font style.

Do NOT copy / paste from Word!!
For one thing, in order to have pictures you must either upload them to your media library or link to them online (Flickr for example).
But the main reason not to paste from Word is that though it's a fine word processor, it does not speak "internet" very well at all. It adds all sorts of junk code which could break your theme. If you must paste from Word, do this:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/
or this:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/word-web-app/

Or if you find writing directly into the wp.com editor difficult get an offline editor:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

I recommend this tutorial for all new folks:
http://learn.wordpress.com/get-flashy/
That is the page about inserting pictures, but the whole tutorial would be useful to get yourself acquainted with WordPress.com.

Also, here is the Support article about inserting images:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/
and specifically about image alignment:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-alignment/
What you need to know is that image alignment can be left, center, right or none.
alignleft: text wraps on the right
aligncenter: image in center, no text wrap
alignright: text wraps on the left
alignnone: image on left, no text wrap
