I'd really like for the "all posts" display from the dashboard to include the word count for each post. I'd also like to have the total word count on the stats page (with the other totals) and to be able to download the table of word counts.

I'm interested in seeing if there is a correlation between my post length and the popularity of the post, but I don't want to click on my nearly 1000 posts to see how long each one is. That sort of tedium is what computers are for, and it should be trivial for WordPress.com to provide this info.

Ok, the first problem I'm having is adding tags to my posts. It was working fine for a while, but now when I type in a tag and press add, nothing happens. When I hit "Choose from the most used tags" nothing happens.

Also, when I press "Upload Media" nothing happens, although I have been able to add photos to my posts by using the separate media tag and adding some basic html code to my post by hand.

Finally, a few things that aren't important, but still seem wrong: word count is set at 0 when editing a post, I can't toggle between visual and text, and menu options that were visible under the text setting have disappeared.

Since noticing the tag problem, I've restarted my computer more than once. I've also tried logging out and back in with no result. So, is there anything I can do about this, or is a problem with WordPress to blame?

Over the years I have found that I have very little inclintaion to read posts that are 3000 words in length.

Hi.
There is no correct answer. its really how you want to present your content to viewers.
many people will leave enough of the begining of a post to hook a reader, then they will use the "more" tag, to hide the rest of the content.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

As for me us the more tag for long post over a 1200 or so words, I also use it to hide photo galleries and video embeds from my home page.
this will increase page load times, especially for readers with slow internet connections.

Is there an ideal number of words for a blog?

I've written (as yet unpublished) a travel memoir which is quite long - about 3000 words.
I've divided it into three posts, parts 1, 2 and 3 and will put links to the other 2 on each post.

Is that the best thing to do or would it be better left as one long post?

Reading in 3 parts, it doesn't flow quite as well but I wonder whether people are less likely to read a post if it's too long.

If anyone has any thoughts or experiences on ideal blog length I'd be interested to hear them.

Thanks
