You're welcome. :) Do note that if you have been told "build it and they will come" that's nonsense. There is no such thing as passive blog promotion. It's up to the blogger to learn how to structure a reader and search engine friendly blog, publish interesting fresh content frequently, and promote every post they publish throughout social networks.

I think what your blog and every other blog needs is a skilled and savvy blogger and targeted readers.

Targeted readers are those who arrive on your site because they already have an interest in the content your posts and blog contain. They have typed keywords and phrases into search engines and located your posts in the SERPS (search engine page results) and clicked through. The fact that targeted readers already have an interest in the content in your posts means they are likely to read more than one post, more likely to leave comments, and more likely to become regular readers/subscribers.

Consequently, the first step for any blogger to take to establish a flow of targeted readers to their blog is learning and applying the use of basic SEO elements, and relevant categories and tags, so their posts and blog are actually accessible to potential readers, who use search engines to locate content on subjects of interest to them. http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/basic-seo-elements-for-bloggers/

I went to the support documentation here http://en.support.wordpress.com and searched for you:
Five Ways to Get Featured on Freshly Pressed
Getting More Views and Traffic

Here are 25 basic steps to take to increase traffic to your blog:
1. Structure a reader and search engine blog;
2. In blogging content is king create unique, high quality content so publish fresh content frequently;
3. Learn basic SEO so you can use keywords effectively and apply basic SEO to your headlines, blog and posts;
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results.
4. Make your blog posts look professional;
5. Create at least 4-6 pillar posts and continue to create pillar posts;
Pillar posts are also referred to as flagship content. Pillar posts are comprehensive posts that offer great value to readers as the contents are timeless in nature. They define you as having authority in the niche you blog in.
6. Select and link to appropriate anchor text;
7. Leave meaningful comments on related blogs and encourage comments on your own blog;
8. Develop relationships with other bloggers so you can build a blog readers’ community around your own blog;
9. Support the blog centered communities on related blogs by commenting on them and promoting posts from them;
10. Link to authoritative sources in your posts;
11. Deep link to your earlier related posts in your new posts;
12. Assign appropriate categories and tag your posts with care;
13. Link to related authoritative blogs in your blogroll;
14. Provide RSS feeds for subscribers;
RSS (Rich Site Summary or really simple syndication) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.
15. Having a well designed theme is important, evaluate your theme for effectiveness, and if required, create a new header, make improvements or replace your theme and reduce page loading time;
16. Avoid cluttering your blog with widgets that lack reader value and slow page loading time;
17. Buy your own domain and domain mapping;
18. Verify your blog with the three big search engines.
19. Get organized, use an online to do list by developing a blogging workflow;
20. Join social networks and social media sites like Facebook and use Twitter, Friendfeed and other Free RSS directories to promote your blog posts;
21. Promote your blog through social networks, online groups, and selected directories;
22. Develop a social media time management strategy and stick to it;
23. Submit your latest pillar article to a blog carnival;
24. Become a guest blogger on sites with higher page rank than your own site.
25. Create newsletters and/or ebooks for your subscribers.

What’s critical is to understand when creating a website structure is the following:
1. The differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/

2. There is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages.

3. We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. Although there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance we have done so by creating a custom menu. In that custom menu you can also display Pages, subpages and custom links.

Create pages > http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

1. You create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

2. You add the Parent pages you want to display and arrange them in the order you want.

3. Then you add and drop and drag the subpages below the appropriate Parent pages, and when you have everything arranged in the menu that you want you save the menu.

4. Go to the “theme location” module at upper left on the menu page. Select your custom menu name from the pulldown labeled “primary location.” Click the save button in that module.

5. Refresh your browser so that it isn’t possibly pulling a cached page, and view see your new menu with Parent pages and dropdowns to sub-pages.

Hello All,

I'm a newbie on WP and have recently started a photoblog on the Modularity Lite theme.

I'd like to add a few pages on the top right corner of the frame. However, when I try to do this, I can't add any and the current 'About' tab disappears.

Any thoughts how to add more pages, so I have say 5 or so tabs on the top right corner?

Thanks in advance!
A

Sorry, but my URL showed when I posted the question, so I assumed it also showed up on the forum.

From my initial research (while waiting for help from this forum) it seems I can't achieve this goal via WordPress.com vs. WordPress. org which is self-hosted and offers a lot more themes? Is this true?

Some offered ways around this problem on WordPress.com but it seemed very complicated for a novice WP blogger. (I have a blog on Typepad that is a lot easier to figure out, though doesn't have the variety of themes WP has>)

I don't why About Me disappeared but it seems to come and go depending upon what theme I'm trying out. (still haven't decided). In one instance I actually had two page headers overlapping another! To fix that I had to delete the page and start all over again.

Another thing I can't figure out is how to use Custom Menu completely and the tutorial posted here is of little help as it doesn't define its terms well enough for a neophyte whose only experience was Blogger.
