You can always typically think of it as whatever the current version is "+". Much of the time we are actually running on a hybrid of the current version + some of the next version that is being worked on.

wordpress.com does not officially use a certain version of WordPress, but I think you can safely assume that it's at least the latest version, which would be 2.8.4.

Hi, there. I just launched a new blog last week using the DePo theme. How do I know which version of WordPress I'm using? I've read some good things about version 2.5 and want to make sure I'm using it. Thank you.

i am basically a loner, and have no geek pals

- i was wondering if anyone, since windows movie maker is so horrible

-can recommend a decent alternative to WMM

- i'd even pay a nominal feel for something that can do a good decent looking basic job.

that said, any format converters would be great too. i can't do ANYTHING with any of the formats w/ WMM - and again, i'd be happy to shell out a nominal fee...nominal being like $20-30 bucks since i know there HAVE to be decent movie/video editing projet makers out there.

and as i mentioned, one can only do so LITTLE w/ WMM that many formats aren't supported w/ WMM and makes it impossible to edit easily (for someone like me who isn't patient) and idiot proof.

I do have podpress and I like it and will be using it more in the next week finally - but as a photographer i am not happy with Flickr at all (i can't even find a decent flickr flash badge or widget to use that is supported by 2.5)

- and if i do something like shoot in hi speed with my Nikon d200, i cannot find anything to make a decent slide show with at the speed I require.

see, told u i had no friends to ask these basic things!...

with all of the advances and upgrades I thought there ought be something that works in tandem or complements WordPress these days!

thanks in advance for your patience to my stupid questions!!...

or should i just shut up and take somthing at a night school..If there are any night schools that deal with tutoring peple in this area...

I;m back to using Blogdesk after trying Windows Live Writer.

I should have been more adventurous in trying the BlogDesk icons on the toolbar. There *is* blockquote. It's called Indent (Citation/Blockquote).

I didn't like WLW because it was too big for my screen and Categories were *below* the entry field in a *popup*. BlogDesk has Categories on the side -- so I don't forget to use them.

I think I'm sticking with BlogDesk.

All you do is put the graphics in the post. See the icon bar? One is a wee photo. You just insert with that.

Then, when you're ready to post, there's a wizard that guides to you through the information needed to connect to your blog.

Basically, all the info you need to know is:

1) Blog name
2) Blog URL
3) Your login name
4) Your password

BlogDesk takes care of the technical stuff.

Then when you hit the Publish button, it sends everything up!

(My advice is to uncheck Publish after Upload, so you can preview the post online before publishing to make sure everything is OK. I had no problems. Note: I pre-scale all my graphics on my PC first.)

I've been using WordPress for over a year and I didn't know it was possible to create posts *offline*.

I just tried a program called BlogDesk and it was a breeze! (I have *no* connection to the program.)

For people still having problems, I suggest trying it:

Nor do I get a save and publish option on the right side of the screen, just save. On the screen which comes up when I click on 'add image' may be I don't get the whole screen, maybe it does say crunching right over on the right but that is hidden from me. I am going mad here. I need to go and do something that I can do, if you get what I mean, I need to be in control for a little while. My email provider has now crashed or something as well. Bring back quill pens and ink bottles is what I say.

I can't get any images to upload. It says "crunching" then goes out to lunch. Similar thing on the two blogs I use for classes.

It was working fine Friday, then late Friday afternoon everything went haywire.

Make sure your file name contains only numbers and letters, no spaces, no special characters or punctuation, and no underscore characters ( _ ).

Sorry, but I can't answer your question. You're asking about something I've never done! Hopefully someone else can chime in.

BTW, did you contact Support directly? They already solved a problem for me regarding posting a Gallery correctly. They might have the answer for you too. They're available all weekend this weekend.

your tutorial is great for uploading an image within a post - BUT - how do I upload an image to save in gallery, so I can post it in my sidebar? In the 'old' WP, i had no problems, with WP2.5 -being so new and strange, I can not figure it out, despite my efforts...grrr.

I click on "New Post" - 3 hours later, I'm still waiting for it to open. I go into my "Dashboard" and click on "Write", I still cannot access the ability to write a post (in a "myblog.wordpress.com" site).

There are no category or post ID numbers so if you have a mywebsite.com site and manipulate the html and need to input a category or post ID number, what do you do to get around this?
