Okay - while I'd still be glad about an explanation or ideas as to why directly linking an instagram feed shows only the huge images, I now solved it the hard way by getting a flickr account and copying the images there. Works. I'd rather do it differently though :/

Hello,

I've been trying to use the Workaround for embedding Instagram into my blog by using the Flickr-widget. The widget does work in theory - but instead of showing thumbnail-sized images as settings assure me, it shows the original image size, scattering the layout. Anyone any idea what to do about it? I'm using the "Under the influence" layout, and'd rather not have to change it (I tried around: a few rare layouts seem to work well with instagram-through-flickr, but most have the same problem).

What's left for me to say: Please, dear WordPress.com, do give us a nice Instagram-embedding-widget, please. :/

Best

Thanks for reporting this. There's a bug in the CSS parser. I have reported the bug.

In the mean time, you can work around the issue by removing all the spaces between the list of elements and it should work.

background:url(fancybackground.png) repeat-x,url(myfile.png) no-repeat left top fixed,black;
}

Could you try that out and let me know if you have any trouble with it?

Note that you should make sure to use full URLs starting with http:// inside the url() function in the CSS editor at WordPress.com.

I've noticed when trying to use multiple backgrounds with a fallback for older browsers, the multiple background url(s) are being stripped.

Take the following, for instance:
.test{
/* Fallback for older browsers */
background: black url(myfile.png) no-repeat left top fixed;

 /* Newer, CSS3 browsers */
background:
url(fancybackground.png) repeat-x,
url(myfile.png) no-repeat left top fixed,
black;
}
Once processed by wordpress.com, it ends up as:
.test {
background:black url('myfile.png') no-repeat left top fixed;
background:repeat-x, no-repeat left top fixed, black;
}
The outputted code results in the desired fallback behaviour for older browsers, but a plain black background with no image at all in modern browsers. It's a bit annoying.

There is a workaround, and that is to specify the fallback as longhand:
.test{
/* Fallback for older browsers */
background-color:black;
background-image: url(myfile.png);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: left top;
background-attachment: fixed;

 /* Newer, CSS3 browsers */
background:
url(fancybackground.png) repeat-x,
url(myfile.png) no-repeat left top fixed,
black;
}
It would still be nice if this could be resolved in the next version of the CSS parsing whatsit. :)

Based on what you have already, you could adjust it a little bit to get the footer you created to a width of 920px to match your current header size:

#newfooter {
clear: both;
font-family: 'Droid Serif', Georgia, serif;
position: absolute;
max-width: 880px;
left: 0;
text-align: right;
width: 100%;
bottom: 4px;
margin: 1.8em 0;
line-height: 1em;
background: #F9F8F4;
border: 0 solid #CCC;
border-width: 0;
padding: .8em 20px 1.3em;
}

I'm not sure if you meant to change the font. Keep in mind that padding is included in the total width, so I changed the right and left padding to 20px and reduced the max-width to 880px. I also set the left and right margins to zero, It doesn't look to me like the footer you created needs those. I also removed the 95% width setting.

Hi all - Using Custom Design CSS on Fresh & Clean theme. Client needed a footer, but there is just one sidebar area, no footer. I found a workaround, but I can't quite get it right. The right side of the footer and header are aligned, but the left aren't.
I've tried adjusting any number of little things in the margins, padding, width, etc. Sometimes it will move slightly to the right, sometimes all the way up into the sidebar area. Sometimes way off to the left.
Here is the code that is working best:
#newfooter {
clear:both;
font:'Droid Serif', Georgia, serif;
position:absolute;
max-width:920px;
left:0;
text-align:right;
width:95%;
bottom:4px;
margin:1.8em;
line-height:1em;
background:#f9f8f4;
border:0 solid #ccc;
border-width:0;
padding:.8em .9em 1.3em;
}
(I know the gray is too light, I'm working with my client on that.)
Thanks so much!

Hi there,
The answer to the question in the title of this thread is:
this is theme dependent;
it can only be done if and only if the theme has an active excerpt box.
We cannot edit templates ror themes and we cannot use CSS editing to alter how any theme is coded to function.

Please read > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/

I'm doing a monthly magazine, and would like my home page to show a list of (the current month's) article summaries. Unfortunately, I see this summary-style-home-page on only some themes I've previewed, but not the ones I really like. The themes I like (both premium and free) list the full post on the home page by default.

In other words, I wish the "archive" page in my preferred theme(s) could be the default home page. Since I can't set the home page to be the 'archive', I'm hoping you can point me to a tutorial or instructions for creating a new page (in wordpress.COM, mind you) that lists article summaries (archive-style) for a given month.

The plan is to then choose "Front Page Displays" My-archive-style-new-page and get the home page I'm after.

Each article is already assigned a Volume/Issue category. Choosing to view "Archive for the '__________' category" also brings the perfect home page: a list that includes authors, titles, publication dates, and article summaries—just not the full posts.

I'm hoping someone will tell me this hack isn't necessary because I'm overlooking something really simple.

Thanks.

That's the easy way, but the period will show in your RSS feed, it will show on your category pages if they display excerpts, it will show if someone copypastes your text, and it will show for users who (like me) have set their browser to display different colors than the original ones of the page. The correct way is enclosing your first paragraph in p tags with some top padding or margin:

Is there a SIMPLE way to just add a blank space below the date and above my first line of text? I could do it on an older computer by typing ampersand nbsp semi-colon (which apparently is a big no-no, but worked for MONTHS on that other computer.) Now, for some reason, that doesn't work - maybe it has something to do with Windows 7...?? Anyway - I just don't like my first line of text bunched up under the date. I read the blank lines and alignment link, but none of that seemed to apply...Not REAL technologically advanced here. Thanks!

Hi. Maybe "tel" links are not supported by WordPress.com after all. I suggest you ask them once the contact form reopens in a few days:

I'm trying to use a "tel:+###########"

tag in a page, but rather than behaving as such a link normally would, it goes to "http://[myblog].wordpress.com/+###########". Is there any way I can work around this?

Thanks for all of your help, after following @timethief link and carefully reading it all, there was one plain English explanation of what to do. II found one post with complete sentences with verbs, nouns, prepositions, etc. :-) That helped a lot, and the solution was ... envelope please....

change the
dir="spreadsheets/embeddedform" parameter
to
dir="embeddedform"
(applause!)

I know this is an interoperability bug, and with WordPress and Google being pretty aggressive about updates, I'm sure it was somehow overlooked in testing. I understand this is probably a feature that few people use, so I'm happy with a good workaround. Thanks one and all!
