Hi—

(Ok… it isn't actually WPfolio but my own custom theme derived from it. But the js folder is identical as well as most things)

I guess it's the superfish menu I'm talking about? To make my theme I changed very little other than superficial things, yet for some reason my drop down menu sometimes disappears on hover… about 50% of the time. *Not* on iOS though as far as I can tell, and WPfolio seems to work fine if I switch to that. From searching forums it appears people have had similar problems about two years ago but that the issues were resolved (I think. I'm having trouble finding that thread now).

What WPfolio files are involved in the menu behavior…? I'd like to try restoring/overwriting piece by piece what I've changed . Surely if it's intermittent like this then it can't be my css changes, right?

Thanks!

There are no new rules. I have been here for 6 years and we have never had FTP access to our WordPress.com blogs like the one linked to your username, so we ever been able to to uploa third party themes.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/
On free hosted wordpress.COM blogs we can only use the themes which have been coded to run on this multi-user software and made available to us here. > Appearance > Themes and no others.

If you wish to have complete control over a blog, the ability to upload themes and plugins, and to edit themes and templates then your option is to hire a web host and get a free software install from WordPress.ORG and self host it.

We cannot add themes at wordpress.COM. We are limited to the 150+ (and growing) themes found in the dashboard under appearance > themes. Themes found on the internet are for self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG.

Themes at wordpress.COM have to be modified to work within the restrictions here and to support the unique features.

The differences between wordpress.com and wordpress.org (self-hosted) sites.

If you have CSS editing experience, you can get the Custom Design Upgrade, which will allow you to stylize the themes here, but it does not allow you to change the functionality. CSS is also themes specific so you cannot use the CSS from one theme with another theme. Before buying the upgrade, you can go to appearance > Custom Design and to the CSS tab and wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try out changes before you buy the upgrade.

hi

I want a clean and simple artist theme website that doesn't look like a blog - that I can work with/update [I don't know code].

Researching online I found the WPfolio looks great - and there appears lots of support / conversation about it.
http://wpfolio.visitsteve.com/wiki/

but it now seems missing from WP as one of their 159 theme options.

however I found it behind the scenes as an extended theme:
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

as:
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/search.php?q=WPfolio
and downloaded it onto my mac laptop - but cant figure out how to get it working [or if it will] as the new theme for my wp blog.... ?

but I also found a WP entry on custom themes [4 oct 2011] - that says one can't now download custom themes:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

any advice appreciated on how to get WPfolio up and working on wordpress would be great
- or otherwise info on what working available wordpress theme is a great simple website [ with online discussion/chats happening about how to get it to look like a website and not a blog ]

thanks a lot for any advice
