Yes and no. It's not possible to downaload the blog you see in the full form you see it appearing when you view it online on your own computer. It is possible to export an XML file containing the content in your blog and keep it on your computer as a back-up.

The figure never increases. My old blog's URL, 'portraitcafe', is still producing 1800 results. I have used Google's' delete sites/pages/tags function to try to reduce this number. My thinking is that much of my potential traffic is still being directed to these pages.

Yes, I briefly saw something on this as I was searching for a solution. I will revisit this topic again, thanks. Interestingly, I recently validated my blog with Bing, and it was the same old...only my most recent posts, typically 10 in number, were listed by them, too.

Are you aware that Google's search spiders are now focused on the keywords in your content? There was so much spamdexing (tag spamming) going on and so much duplicated content that tag searches became non-productive for search engine users. Google is focused on search engine user experience. You may benefit from reading this and watching what Matt Cutts of Google has to say in the video > Revisiting Keywords and Tags.

Thank you. Additionally, I can web-search for a page's title and find it listed in results, which is something at least. But I am missing those random search hits from visitors searching by tags. Hopefully things will begin to improve in the timescale you gave.

When a URL chages it takes about 4 months for the search engines to completely reindex the content under the new URL.

A month ago I saved my blog's .xml file prior to deleting my blog from WordPress.com. I have since reinstated my blog to WordPress.com, albeit with a new URL, although I have kept the original blog title.

Now, I am only seeing 'Search Engine Terms', for new posts since my blog's reintroduction, and not for the bulk of my blog's content as I was used to seeing, prior to deletion. There are 654 tags, but only a few tags from those recent posts, are producing 'Search Engine Terms'.

As a consequence, my visitor traffic has suffered quite markedly. There seems to be a block on search engines crawling the imported portion of my blog, which forms the majority of all my posts. I am hoping there is something obvious I need to do to resolve this. If anyone out there has had a similar experience, I would like to hear from them.

is it possible for me to import my posts from anneforme.blog.com to my wordpress? I'm trying to import it to iamakpopfan.wordpress.com. I tried to download the XML file from blog.com but I don't know which to select from the list of systems that I could import from. Please help. I hope you understood what I mean. Thanks!

The thing is, if you have deleted the old site, all the images that were on that site are now gone, so they can't be imported into the new site.

All I can suggest is give staff time to get back to you.

Yeah this was one of the first things I had done, but they haven't gotten back to me yet. I thought maybe asking here I could find a quicker answer. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You need to contact staff directly on that and see what they can do for you.

Go to http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ , fill in your query and include the URL of the new site and then when done click the "no...." button and you can submit your query.

I recently deleted a blog I had but I have the xml file. I want to import it over to a new name and such, but when I export the file it gives me an error that says Your upload file contained more attachments than we are equipped to process.

What is the problem here and how can I fix this?

Looking at the icon on that error message it appears that McAfee may be blocking something. Have you tried downloading the export in Firefox or Safari? The export is working properly for me.

Hi there,
You're welcome. Moving the blog content and blogroll links is not difficult if one follows the instructions provided. The XML export file will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags. The blogroll links are separately exported. http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/import-export-links/

Thx RC and TT, very helpful info also i'll let this sit here so perhaps others can share the experiences with deletion and/or moving

...backup blog does sound like a good idea, i just did'nt want us having two blogs
but guess better be safe than sorry

Export your blog first, because once you delete it there is nothing to export. Review the documentation on deletion, because it is PERMANENT; you cannot get at the content or use the URL ever again, nor can anyone else.

My advice is: export your blog to the new blog, then set the one here as Private. That way it'll serve as a backup of your blog.

Hello all, hope your doing lovely today

For a few months we have debated on if we should delete our wp.com and start another here or on wp.org
this question is in regards to import/export actually, if we delete our current blog here what do we need to do first, second and third? Is it hard downloading your XML file which will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags?

we would love to hear from others and their experiences with deleting & exporting their blogs, just wanted some insight on the correct actions, was about to search the topics on this, but I wanted to get more recent opinions as we certainly dont want to loose any of our important factors of our blog.

Try refreshing the page. In some instances I've seen the import thing "stick" and not refresh and give you the "done" message. After refreshing the page, check the blog to see if the import happened.

Also, were you following the instructions in this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/ ? In general with a blogger import you import directly from the blogger blog - as I remember - not the XML file since with a full template backup at blogger, it contains the theme files, and those cannot be imported. Only the post content and associated stuff can be imported.
