We do not provide support for that site here. We provide support here only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and no others. You appear to be referring to a WordPress>ORG site and posting to the wrong support forums. If you don't have a username account at WordPress.org click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.org bloggers.

XML-RPC is already enabled by default here at WordPress.com.
Make sure that you have the correct XML-RPC URL:

When I first pasted a blog entry to WordPress from my email, the format was totally screwy! The only way I could get it to format
correctly was to reduce the font to an 8 before copying!!! Now the
formats correct but you need a magnifying glass to read it!! Someone suggested Windows Livewriter to create the blogs so I downloaded THAT....it said I would find a button on WordPress home page to link my blog to Livewriter.....can't find that button anywhere on WordPress!! Can anyone help this technologically-challenged senior before she throws in the towel on this whole blog thing?

Right, XML-RPC only accepts post requests, which means you can only send data to it, you can't take data from it.

There are plenty of services which will tie into your blog's RSS feed instead for this: http://en.support.wordpress.com/feeds/

Also, try Publicize for some of the more popular social networks: http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/

I have checked this previously, and I get this response on that page: "XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only."

Again, I am not having problems publishing TO the blog. I am having issues when trying to pull and distribute information FROM the blog.

I have a few blogs on WordPress.com that I use to post editorials and ideas anonymously.

In the name of convenience, I am trying to use IFTTT to auto post my blog entries to other social mediums. I also have my favorited videos & such post to my WordPress.com blogs from IFTTT. The post TO wordpress works flawlessly, however the posting FROM wordpress will not work to the other mediums.

IFTTT instructs me to "Please enable XML-RPC support in your WordPress dashboard under Settings > Writing > Remote Publishing." When I do some research, this is already enabled by default. However, the channel on IFTTT is posting this error: " General Trigger Error: An error with WordPress prevented your Recipe from working. Edit the WordPress Channel or try again. If errors persist, visit the Help page for support."

I know the settings for WordPress are correct because YouTube can post TO WordPress with no problem. However, nothing can post FROM WordPress.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as I would like this resolved ASAP.

Your reference to the codex which is only for Wordepress>ORG installs leads me to believe the site in question is not a site being hosted by WordPress.com. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.com blogs here. I've built myself a tool for posting to my WordPress.com site via XML-RPC. When I use the tool with the metaWeblog.newPost a new post is in fact created. However, according to the documentation (http://codex.wordpress.org/XML-RPC_MetaWeblog_API#metaWeblog.newPost) the postid, an integer, should be as a string in the response. It is not though.

I am using PHP and cURL with the metaWeblog.newPost XML-RPC method. As I've stated it is capable of creating a blog post but does not return the postid. Instead it returns FALSE.

When I mess up the login creds I get a faultCode 403 and can see the message in my cURL response. And when I don't the post shows up. So this leads me to believe it isn't my code but rather WordPress.com not returning the postid on purpose.

What I really want is the permalink of the new post. I had intended to use the postid with the metaWeblog.getPost method in order to get that permalink. Is there another way to get the permalink?

I have a programme called Blogstomp which suggests that I can blog directly from it if I can tick the box as indicated below, however, I cannot locate this box:

Make sure remote posting is enabled. In the back end of WordPress, go to the Settings menu, and select Writing. Near the bottom of the page, find

“XML-RPC Enable the WordPress, Movable Type, MetaWeblog and Blogger XML-RPC publishing protocols.”

and make sure that box is ticked.

Hit “Save Changes” and you should be good to go!

I'm convinced WP has changed something? Perhaps to stop third party apps from posting? I cant use the native WP front end to post blogs, its tedious, clumsy, not intuitive and time consuming.

Thanks for that. I didn't even think that since the option wasn't available that it was already enabled. How about when it ask to add a new user? Should I have to do that if my blog is already set up?

I'm trying to upload an article from iWriter to my blog. Some of the things they say to do I don't see that option in my dashboard. They want me to enable xmlrcp? I don't see that option under setting>writing. They also want to to add a new user. Under users I don't see that option, I have all users, invite a new user, etc. My blog already has a username and password - is that why? I want to post my first blog post, I don'y create a new blog for every post right, that sounds silly.I really need help, is there anyone I can talk to?

Thanks for getting back!

We have a test connection feature and for simplicity sake we'll only consider that aspect.

That 'test connection' simply retrieves the first post of the blog based on users credentials. That fails with a bogus 406 error, sometimes, despite no credentials (or code) changing.... My hunch was a restriction on the number of requests...
