Reading the Help answers, one talked about 'permanently deleting' the image, which I did.
Now there is no option for either deleting or uploading a header image on the Wu Wei theme I have been using or any of the other themes I preview.
Is there a way to retrieve the header image option?
All I wanted to do was change the image and seem to have made it much more complicated.
