@myintuitivemind, I do agree with you and indeed this has been discussed on the big thread on Google Analytics and is one of my three WordPress.com wishes posts on my blog.

Meanwhile until that day, timethief has given a link to her excellent post on alternative stats counters. Personally, I find clicky very suitable for my needs.

@runmymeeting
If you are referring to the blog linked to your username then please read the following and understand that NOTHING changes except that the URLs seamlessly redirect vistors and that is all.

Before Upgrading – Important Notes
Same Rules Apply – The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required to abide by our Terms of Service. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

No. CSS editing cannot be used for that purpose. Google Ananlytics is a "no go" on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. That's a dead issue. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

If it's a deal breaker then you will have to hire a web host and set up a WordPress.ORG install on your own domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
