Cookies are how WordPress.com software recognizes who has legitimate access to your blog. User roles define what kind of access they have. Without an account any scammer or spammer could post whatever they wished to your blog and you would be faced with a mess. You're welcome from me and best wishes with your project. :)

There are risky ways. You can sign up for "post by email" and give them all the email address. You could register a user, add it as an author and give them all the login details. Both will be a pain if someone decides to post adds, porn, or something that gets your blog suspended.

No, there isn't. You should consider a Wiki instead.

And don't you know that all caps means screaming? You don't want to scream at us, right? :-)

Ok, thanks for the attempt. This still does not answer the question.

Point that were missed:

1. We have security, aka user rolls, figured out. Don't need info on that.
2. The point was missed about adding users. Is there way to add users without forcing them to sign up for a wordpress account.
3. In your post "A blog is not a wiki", in your first couple of sentences you point out exactly what we are about

So the question remains: IS THERE A WAY TO HAVE MEMBERS OF OUR KIN REGISTER ON OUR "BLOG" WITHOUT FORCING THEM TO SIGN UP FOR A WORDPRESS ACCOUNT?

Greetings,

We have a Kin on the Lord of the Rings Online game. I was wondering if there is a way to allow members of our Kin to register, log into and post on our website without having to force them to create a wordpress.com account.

We have the security aspect figured out. I would just like to allow our Kin members to register and post and we will not be charging for membership to this blog. Also, I would like to create a membership list based upon registration.

What is the answer?
