As thesacredpath saidWordPress.COM is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same underlying theme and wordpress files and any bad code, or security issue introduced by a user could bring down a bunch of blogs. Blogger is not a multi-user platform. That's the difference.

Then why does Blogger, with such a huge user base, allow javascript? I've never had any blogs closed there...

Javascript, flash, iframes and forms are not allowed here due to security concerns. There are also limits on the plain HTML that can be used here. WordPress.COM is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same underlying theme and wordpress files and any bad code, or security issue introduced by a user could bring down a bunch of blogs.

http://support.wordpress.com/code/

There have been many of the blogging and other services on the internet brought down by bad code inserted by users and there is a ton of very badly written code out there.

Addthis will work here, it is just that people have to click on it rather than just requiring a mouseover. http://support.wordpress.com/addthis/

Hello,

I had previously used AddThis with my Blogger, and when I switched over to wordpress there is no popup window when I move my mouse over the button, like it did with blogger. I googled around some and apparently WordPress has no support for 3rd party javascript plugins. Is this true? Why do they restrict the functionality of the many brilliant HMTL gadgets that are everywhere? If not, what's not working and how can I fix it? Thanks a bunch! I'm lovin' wordpress (except for this problem and restriction of editing HTML) and you sure did a good job making it!
