I do not have a direct answer. I went to the WordPress.org forums and did a quick search there and I believe you can allow anonymous comments. I don't think you can ask this in their forum yourself unless you are registered user of the org site.

Anybody know what the comments options are on WordPress.org? I want to enable anonymous comments (i.e. so that readers do NOT have to type in an email address) -- I don't want to have to use Disqus or Facebook comments, either.

Is this option available on WordPress.org? -- to have anonymous comments?
