Oh, yes, sorry about not catching on there!

Yes, you will be able to update the details as necessary. If for some reason that fails to work, you can always go the manual renewal route.

Sorry to be a pest, but my original question still needs an answer.Can one edit the credit card info to just put in the new expiration year. I do not want the auto-renew, once it is all set up, to crash land because my credit card expires. Now I know why I, myself, couldn't do it this time, but I'd like to know for the future.

I replied in more details, but for the sake of keeping things under this topic, it was the coupons causing the problem. They were used before auto-renewal was in place, so your card info was not saved. Coupons are handled like account credit and therefore cannot be used for auto-renew either.

I have disabled auto-renew on the upgrades that it was incorrectly applied to. You'll need to manually renew this time, but you can choose to auto-renew in the future.

@macmanx,

Just for the record, this is the answer I emailed in answer to my private ticket response:

My blog was transferred here from Windows Live Spaces. My space was http://x-evolutionist.spaces.live.com. It now redirects to one of my WordPress blogs: http://xevolutionistspace.wordpress.com/.

In addition to that, I moved my previous self-hosted website to a new blog I made for that purpose: http://xevolutionistdotcom.wordpress.com/ and it is attached to my domain name: X-Evolutionist.com.

Before Windows Live Spaces closed down, I attended an online seminar about it (I was a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional) and we got coupon codes for the upgrades. I put in my credit card info for the upgrades, but when I put in the coupon codes, and the charge was waved.

@macmanx

Thanks I was not aware that ability existed - yes not an issue on the refund time frame - I have also done the math on the cost of my old host against the cost of domain mapping and the small cost - can't buy a small pizza for the price of domain mapping. My domain registration (not at WordPress.COM is paid ahead for a couple of years.

On the refund period - I am amazed at the number of people that want a refund after they have the name & mapping for maybe two hours - don't they think a bit about the upgrade?

xevolutionist, there is an issue specific to your account that will require some account details to clear up, hence the private ticket.

auxclass, you can actually manually renew multiple times if you really want to, but keep in mind that the 30-day refund period (or 48-hour for domains) still applies, even if you've renewed through 2015.

@macmanx: Thank you for your reply!

I feel that my question applies to many users. So, rather that filing a private request, I'd like to give more details:

What prompted my question is that my domain name (registered elsewhere) came up for renewal last week. My domain name could not automatically renew because my credit card had expired. I just logged in and updated the expiration year.

My WordPress.com upgrades (domain, no ads and css) do not expire until November, but rather than wait until the last minute I wanted to ensure that my automatic renewals went seamlessly.

On the "Upgrades --> Domains" page there is a button that says: "Update Credit Card". When I tried to put in just the new expiration date all the blanks turn red and it apparently wants me to fill in everything from scratch.

Everybody with a credit card has an expiration year (I am assuming) and a new card is sent out. Since WordPress.com upgrades are set up to automatically renew, it seems that WordPress would want it quick and easy to revise just the expiration year if everything else is the same. (After all, that button says "Update Credit Card", not fill in all credit card info from scratch".)

I request that the Credit Card Update page be revised for the convenience of all of us.

Thank you,

X
