Okay, I figured out what I was doing wrong and it was so simple. I was making changes to the code, and not in the blank CSS box. I didn't understand that you code had to be overridden by your own code and not changed within the theme stylesheet.

Many thanks for your attempts to help me. : )
Have a great weekend all!

I have done both. I have copied the entire CSS, modified and then pasted it back and I have also modified it in the editor. I can see the changes in the CSS, but not on my site. I just tried the control F5 and it does refresh the browser, but not with the changes. When I check the code the changes are there, but for some reason are not hitting my website. I am hitting update stylesheet too, save as well. Odd.
As for the font tag, that is not my doing. I have only been trying to change the background color.

Is it somehow being over ridden somewhere? When I was changing the body last night it had the changes I was trying to make, but then this morning when I looked are the code in the body it is back to the original code. When I hit F5 it seemed to also put in the original code, not mine.

Crazy.

I also tried taking the background color out and no luck either.

Anyone else have any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks again for all your help.
Regards,
Rosalind

It's not that font tag "76%/1.6 em" that's doing it is it?

No, that represents the values of font-size/line-height, so it's fine.

Rosalind,

It seems your values are not being pulled.

How are you changing the body selector? I mean, did you copy the entire CSS, modified it and paste it back in the CSS editor or just added the modified part into the editor?

It's not that font tag "76%/1.6 em" that's doing it is it? I've never seen it like that before and thought you could use only one or the other, not both. Try removing it temporarily and see what happens.

When you re-load your blog, do it using ctrl+F5 (for IE) to forsh reload the browser.

Hm. I don't see anything you're doing wrong and I tried the changes you have in a preview and I got a bright blue background, so this seems strange. It might be that you have some kind of a command overriding the background in the stylesheet.

You could try deleting the background out of the body, just as an experiment. Backup the template first in notepad, and if it works everything should go white. If there's no change then I'd say there's definitely something overriding the background in the body.

This could be the limit of my CSS skills showing, though, so I think devblog or atthe404 might be better off giving you advice, when they get here. :)

Thanks for the advice. I definitley purchased the $15. upgrade. I tried you advice. I go to themes, edit CSS, then I add to an existing CSS Stylesheet. I open the code, change the background color (even tried the green), hit save, then apply to style sheet and nothing! I can see the change in the code, but it doesn't change anything on my website.
Here is the code I have now changed, saved, and applied changes with no avail.
body
{
background: #58ACFA;
margin: 0;
font: 76%/1.6em verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif;
color: #333;
text-align: center;
}

Come on, I must be stuffing something up! Any idea? It must be something basic that I am missing.
Again, any assistance would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Rosalind

This may seem silly, but you've definitely bought the CSS upgrade? That's just the first thing to check. :)

I'm no expert, but you're in the right area, far as I can tell. I wouldn't use white as a test, though, it's too similar to the default colour - it can be hard to tell if you've made a change. Go for something dramatic so you can definitely see you've made a change, then work back from there.

Try this, it should give you a bright green background. One easy way of working out different colours is to type something in the visual editor and change the colour, then get the code and paste it in.

body
{
background: #00ff00;
margin: 0;
font: 76%/1.6em verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif;
color: #333;
text-align: center;
}
