In the interests of balance, I have to say this:

Blogger
Blogware
DotClear
GreyMatter
LiveJournal
Movable Type and TypePad.
Textpattern

None of the above have made an exporter so if you are using those you can come to WordPress.
All the above are welcome to create importers if they wish - there is nothing hidden or cryptic about our export format.

All the above export in different formats which is hardly portable.

We created importers to make moving to WordPress easy. I would suggest that if the companies above want people to move to them they should look at writing their own importers.

It is not wise to post your email address in a public forum, unless you really like spam.

Hi,

I'm Daan Berg, a nearly 14-year old tech enthusiast from the Netherlands. I'm very active on the Internet, and I have my website hosted with WordPress.com (indeed, not self-hosted. I'm lazy...)

Anyways, what I wanted to talk about is the following:
I have found it very difficult to be able to export a blog made on either WordPress.com or WordPress.org blogging software, and take it to different blogging software which can import codes, like Blogger.com, TypePad, LiveJournal, etcetera.

I like WordPress.com alot, but I do not like the things that they forbid, like adding HTML to the sidebars (like a video bar from YouTube). That's something I must rely on.

Other people, who have their own reasons to do this, also find it very difficult to export their blogs properly to blogging software different than the WordPress-projects.

Sure, there is an "Export" feature, but it's only to move your blog to another server, which also must be running WordPress software.

This is because WordPress uses it's own make-up language in the XML file it produces, when you export your blog.
This XML-format currently cannot be read in other blogging software programs.

And that's why I started this project. I gave it the name:
WordPress Freedom

And you might also want to know the slogan:
WordPress Freedom - Set Free your WordPress blog!

It's not that I do not like WordPress.com or WordPress Self-Hosted, but there must be the freedom for people to be able to move their blogs elsewhere, to different blogging software.

If you want to help me out with this project (because I know sh*t about codes), please contact me:

Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping out!

- Daan Berg
