As the blog's owner, you're the only one who sees them. You can confirm it by logging off and going to your blog (you'll see what your viewers do: not a single trace of "edit post").
It's just a way of making post editing a bit easier, so you don't have to go back to the Post section on your dashboard menu and search for the post you want to edit.

When I post I see that there is always an "edit this" in red at the bottom. How do remove this. I do not want anyone reading the post the ability to make changes to it.....
