It's unfortunate that you deleted the blog by using these instructions that include 3 warnings and require clicking a verification link in an email. You can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

I started a blog on wordpress.com at the address soupandco.wordpress.com however I deleted this blog as had planned to switch to a self hosted wordpress installation. I have however changed my mind but have discovered that I can no longer recover the name soupandco. Is there anyway to reclaim that name even if it is linked to a new blog?
