Upon deleting the LINKS widget, then replacing this with an empty text widget, the blogroll feature disappeared, as wanted.

I'm so happy to hear that. :) We Volunteers answering support questions are your fellow bloggers. We don't make decisions about features only Staff do. After they return October 29th you can use this link to make your suggestion directly to them if you wish.

Why you do not simply have that as a feature on its own that you simply delete, is like trying to hide it somehow, then you have to explain the method all the time. Simpler just to have it honestly, without the rigamorole.

Timethief's suggestion would work if you hadn't added any widgets yourself.

If by "all its friends" you mean the items listed in the widget, you go to Appearance>Widgets and delete the Links widget.
If you mean you want to remove all widgets, then you need to delete all the ones you've added then add an empty text widget. See here:

But a sidebar with no widgets is just an ugly gap. If you want no sidebar widgets, switch to a theme that has no sidebar or a theme in which the sidebar can be deactivated. See here:

Dear timethief: your suggestion was attempted by me today without result. I am of course referring to a free template. No one said anything about Yola here. Placing an empty test widget had no effect whatsoever. I have copied and pasted the link to my blog here, so you can see what I mean. http://thoughtsandothertales.wordpress.com/

Are you referring to the blog linked to your WordPress.com username? It's not a free hosted WordPress.com blog and we don't provide yola support here.

If you are referring to a free hosted WordPress.com blog and if you do not wish to have any widgets go here > Appearance > Widgets and place an empty text widget at the top of the sidebar.

Hi, I notice that when I am editing my blog there is a section titled blogroll. I do not want this on my sidebar. How do I delete this feature? And all its friends, too.

To link you username to your blog > Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

I am trying to add s blogroll to my site. I have read the directions from the blogroll for wordpress, but the information does not even look like my dashboard. However, I did find the widget titled text but it is inactive. I added the link anyway, but it shows up as the address only without being a link. I don't know what to try next.

In your dashboard go to Links > all links or Links > add new and you can edit, add and delete links from there.

Hi,
I've added the blogroll widget to my site but can't see how you add blogs to it. At the mo it just shows wordpress links which I don't really want...
any help gratefully received!
