Private has no search juice - you want people to find your site when they are looking for labor issues or labor anything in your area - so I vote for open to anyone -

If you have forms you don't want into general circulation you can hide that with a Password protected Post or Page - and members must ask for a password - use a Contact Form and have member ID number as required field -

You want to have some Posts that highlight things happening at your union - the Posts will help search engines find your site

Thanks.
We are a union and have a WP presence at cccloc.wordpress.com. However, we may want to be "member only". Is there a way to restrict the site to our members only? or is that only possible with wordpress.org?

The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade.

WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read the advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

Someone told me that if you have a wordpress.com site, there is a possibility that external ads will appear on your site. Even if you don't want the ads.
Is there a way to block ads from the site? If ads appear, does our organization get the revenue?
We are a non-profit union and don't want the ad support.
