Yes, in some themes. In Quintus you add sidebar widgets in Appearance > Widgets, and you edit the pages to select the no-sidebar template.

I'm using WP for 3 websites. I like the clean look of not having a sidebar for my informational pages, but want to be able to have readers follow and share the blog posts easily. I just changed one site over to not using the side bar and now I don't know how to have people subscribe to the blog.
