I'm hoping someday to someday be able to make them from scratch (I know css/html and have just started learning php). I've got a virtual server set up on my computer and have been developing the theme from that. If anyone could help me clear up some confusion I'd apprettiate it.

Can you only add new images (not overriding older images or linking off site images) through php? I wanted to add a little rss button from my images folder that wasn't integrated in the original theme. I know you can link off site images (like a facebook plugin) and background elements through the css, but for the life of me I can't get it to work.
