You can keep your custom domain name as long as you pay for the registration - 60 days after you have registered it you can transfer the registration to another registrar (you can change the name servers to your new host anytime if you are moving to another host) - depending on the Upgrades - you might need the staff to split out your domain registration from a larger package

The important thing is to make sure you have turned off the automatic renewal so you don't pay for an upgrade next year
