That explains how to add images attached to other posts or pages using the attachment ID.

There are various ways you can create a gallery with unattached images or images attached to other posts/pages, but all those ways are an unnecessary complication.
The WP slideshow works only with images attached to the post or page you want the slideshow to be.

If you uploaded images to the media library, then they are "unattached" so you must edit them in the media library to "attach" them. Choose a picture, than choose "attach", then choose which post or page you want via "search."

The gallery feature and the WP slideshow normally work with images "attached" to a post or a static page; that is, images uploaded from your computer via the Add Media button of that post or page, not with images already in your media library.

Also note that you must have Javascript enabled on your browser.

How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers.

It just says "save all changes" and never says "insert into post".
