You can also simply put them in a text widget in any order you want and call it Categories. As long as you add each category as you create it, it will work exactly the same as the regular categories widget.

Hmmm I just thought of something else. If you need to display your categories in a specific order, you can create a Custom Menu then add Categories to it in the order you want.
Adding Category Pages to Your Menu

Categories will be displayed alphabetically. The only way to override that is to insert numbers prior to the words into the Category title.

Example 1: no numbers - alphabetical display
apples
bananas
cherries

Example 2: insert numbers - numerical display
1 cherries
2. apples
3. bananas

Sorry for the double post, what I mean by this is instead of:

Z
B
C
5

I.e. in the order they were created. Instead, I would like it automatically sorted to list as:

5
B
C
Z

Thanks!

Hey guys,

I saw how to do this on WordPress.org but since we don't have any FPS access I assume it cannot be done by any method there? It was altering wo_category or something like that.

Is there another method for doing this with blogs hosted on WordPress.com?

Cheers,
