As long as you add each category as you create it, it will work exactly the same as the regular categories widget.

If you need to display your categories in a specific order, you can create a Custom Menu then add Categories to it in the order you want.

The only way to override that is to insert numbers prior to the words into the Category title.

Example 1: no numbers - alphabetical display
apples
bananas
cherries

Example 2: insert numbers - numerical display
1 cherries
2. apples
3. bananas

I saw how to do this on WordPress.org but since we don't have any FPS access I assume it cannot be done by any method there? It was altering wo_category or something like that.
