P.S. My husband and I are self-employed. In addition he also has a part time position that requires a lot of travel so I don't get many vacations as I'm required to run the business when he's not available. Luckily, I can do that and answer forum questions too.

What is a hit? In web analytics, a hit is any request for a file from a web server. By request means a hit calculates page content delivered, all images to complete that page, and any additional files that need to be loaded to make the web page you are looking at, appear the way it does.

What is a page view? A page view is a request to load a single page of an internet site that results from a page request from a web surfer clicking on a link on another HTML page which is pointing to the page in question.

What is a unique visitor? A unique visitor is access from a single IP to a web server that generates page views and hits during a particular visit. When a visitor has cookies disabled, there is no way of establishing if they are a unique visitor or not.

What is a bounce? A bounce occurs when a visitor enters and leave on the same URL without clicking any other URL. Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page.

So category archives count in total views but don't show up as individual views. Somehow I missed that even though I just read it. Thanks, as always. I'm guessing that the "Older posts" is the same, though I don't think it specifically says so.

Do you ever take a holiday? :)

A reader comes to my home page. Their arrival (presumably) shows up in my stats as a hit on my home page.

They look at my category cloud, and decide they want to look at a particular category, and click on it. They get a list of all posts in that category. Is that another home page hit, a different kind of hit, or what? Where does it show up in my hit count, or does it?

They click "Back" and go back to my home page. Is that another hit on my home page, or does it not count?

They scroll to the bottom and click on Older posts, and get a second page of posts. Is that another hit on my home page, or does it not count, or is it something else?
