I don't want to spend a ton of time, then learn things the hard way.

What can I say to that. Blogging is an adventure. We all know that in a technological world nothing is frozen in time. Change is the only universal there is in the universe and it's resilience and adaptability that sets individuals apart from the masses who get stuck in ruts.

Whatever you use, you will have to spend some time learning about it. I have been on WP for over a week and still discovering all sorts. With PCs you have to be veeery patient.

Hey there if you don't think that we Volunteers learned everything the hard way -- think again. lol :D I date back to the time when there was single Staff member providing support, a single Moderator, a single support forum and a single FAQs thread on that support forum. I learned everything by the "go figure" method and so did the other Volunteers. :)

I spent several weeks trying to figure the ins and outs of Typepad, only to then find that I wouldn't be able to connect a separate url to it. I don't want to do the same with WordPress. I do find the whole process maddening. The whole process is loaded with circular references, difficult to navigate instructions, incomplete information, and jargon, e.g your last sentence.

I have visited your blog and as you have very little content I suggest you simply get on with the theme change. Changing themes isn't a big deal and I don't know why anyone would assume that it is a big deal. It takes minutes to change themes and go to > Appearance > Widgets and reinstall widgets that have migrated to the Inactive widgets box.

I have been here for 6 3/4 years and I have test blogs that I change themes on multiple times daily to help people here. Aside from that I change themes frequently on my public blogs. Changing themes is quick and easy, provided you don't choose a theme that's dramatically different in displayed image width http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/ and in sidebar width http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/01/11/sidebar-width/ you won't have to make many adjustments at all.

WP hosted blogs are automatically updated by WP, that's why you can't see the version you are using on your dashboard. Correct me, anybody, if I am wrong.

There are 200 themes and we ca change as frequently as we wish to. Changing themes has no effect on the URL and no content is ever lost.
