I figured out what you mean.

Look at the bottom of http://kerrymurrayphotography.wordpress.com ... You will see "Older posts", a link which will take you to the next few posts. This is the same for pretty much all themes.

But if you click on one of the posts, you will see the titles of the previous post, or the next post, or both. This is theme-dependent. As I said earlier, on Twenty Ten, the full name of the article will be displayed, but not on Twenty Eleven, where you will see "Previous" or "Next".

Twenty Ten (showing title of previous/next post): http://lizhsmith.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/um-what-was-the-point-again/

Twenty Ten (previously (10 min ago) only showing Older posts / Newer posts, but now apparently showing the titles): http://kerrymurrayphotography.wordpress.com/

I'm not sure what's going on here - I swear the above blog wasn't showing the post titles when I looked at it several minutes ago, but now it does. I guess must have been mistaken ...

I will activate Twenty Ten for my blog and see what happens, but the last time I tried, nothing changed ...

It's not a question of user setting, but of theme.

Twenty Ten displays the name of the previous/next post.
Twenty Eleven just displays "Older/Newer Posts".

Thanks for your replies.
However, if this is the case then I don't understand how some people using the Twenty Ten theme can display the previous/next title of their posts, while on other blogs using the same theme, it simply displays "←older posts" and "newer posts→".
There must be a user defined setting somewhere, but I can't find it ... :-(

I agree with airodyssey. We cannot access the PHP files in our templates at wordpress.com. This is a multiuser blogging platform.

Hi. To my knowledge, that would require changing the PHP coding for that theme, which is not possible here at WordPress.com.

I'm using the Twenty Eleven theme. How do I change the "Older posts" and "Newer Posts" links at the top and bottom of my posts to indicate the title of the previous and following posts?

Any help would be much appreciated.
(I notice that it can be done in the Twenty Ten theme, but when I preview that theme the links still appear as "Older/Newer Posts" ...)
