Due to some mysterious cause the setting was disabled. Everything is now working as it should be.

The existing comments between April 16 and now will not be changed to allow comments though. The change to the settings will only affect new posts.

Go to your posts > all posts page and you can use the bulk edit feature to turn comments on for all of the posts that have comments off.

I didn't change any settings as far as I can remember. I checked the comment settings but they seem okay to me. Has there been an update at that time?
