"Add media" broke yesterday.

It's been 24 hours and the problem is still extant. The answers I've received from staff and volunteer timethief have not helped. I can't use my site until the problem is fixed. How about a solution? This is what I've tried over the past day:

Firefox browser updated from 11 to 16 - problem not fixed.

Used a different browser - problem not fixed.

Cleared cache and cookies, which I do every day anyway - problem not fixed.

Any suggestions?

Something broke or changed at WP. They should have the professionalism and the staff to tell us exactly what that was and how to fix our sites. Their answers should be specific, direct, and helpful.

They should warn us ahead of time that something is going to change that affects functionality, especially if browser versions are no longer going to work, otherwise we go crazy and waste a lot of time trying to make things work.

When something suddenly breaks on the site after long trouble-free use, the assumption is not that things went wrong on our computers, but at WP. But yes, timethief, we still do troubleshooting.

I wonder what's going on. I wonder if we'll ever find out.

Guesses about what "might" have happened don't help us.

I'm using windows xp and chrome browser.

I tried IE and can't get the editing window to hold still.

I did keep thinking something's broken.

I seem to have missed an entry. It's possible. What notice did I dismiss and how do I get it back?

But I still wonder - can a newsletter issue go out ahead of time about major changes that cause sites to stop working?

Ha ha! This reminds me of when WP switched the way the blogroll ratings are ordered and told no one - just today I finally reordered my blogroll - true story.

cathicarolblog, do you have another browser you could try? You probably have IE somewhere if you're on a PC.

That would help narrow things down.

I'm not the only person who hates Firefox upgrades. I deliberately avoid upgrading Firefox not out of laziness or ignorance but for reasons I find rational.

Couldn't WP please warn users before browser versions stop working?

It is not helpful when the answer from WP is, "It is supposed to be that way - you're the one with the problem". Any changes that affect functionality really should be communicated.

Besides keeping current with the latest web technologies, you also keep yourself safer by staying up to date.

As mentioned early, we make changes all the time (an average of 100 per week), and some of those changes involve embracing new web techologies, and this is why we only support current browsers.

Whenever you visit your Dashboard with an old browser, you are greeted with a notice to upgrade your browser. However, this notice is dismissible, which you might have done in this case since Firefix 11 has been around for quite a while.

One's site functionality suddenly not working, without any kind of notice, is kind of a big deal.

It would be helpful if WP staff put something in place that warns and informs users when browser versions will stop working at WP, for instance, and any other information that affects site functionality.

*Did* WP "do something"? Do you not get notices of reconfigurations so you can inform people? Did this happen with or without notice to WP's users? I subscribe to the newsletter but have seen nothing about this change.

If I can no longer use my site, I'll have to upgrade Firefox, but it would be nice to know which versions WP now supports. Upgrading Firefox is a huge pain.

It is entirely possible that we just introduced a change which broke uploads in Firefox 11. As it is 5 versions behind, we cannot provide support for that.

If "Add Media" was working fine one minute and then not working the next, is the browser version the problem?

Do I need to take the post back to "Draft" to add more photos? Will that work?

Created a post today and uploaded several photos without any issues, then published it.

Went back to edit it a few minutes later, tried to add more photos, but they won't upload, or upload incorrectly.

I just uploaded a 52Kb JPG with no problems.
