Yes, the new feature is views and not unique visitors from each country. Sorry if my explanation was misleading.

But now I'm a little bit confused.

Accordingo to hnsaifi,

WordPress stats counter counts pageviews and your flag counters count number of visitors. And pageviews and visitors not necessarily same as a single member can view your multiple page.

But you say

By your words, it seems that coutry stats work also with pageviews, not visitors, and the difference in my stats is due to the lack of previous country stats records.

Is this correct?

Hi there,
First, I'm glad you like the feature. :)

To explain the difference between your total views and the total views by country, we've only recently started capturing this data in a format that could be used in such a way while the overall views have been collected for a lot longer.

You may also see discrepancies in the future if we are unable to determine a country for a given pageview.

I suspect if you look at the country stats for the last 30 days, and for all time, they will be the same, even if your blog is much older than that.

I believe the country stats go back only a little more than a week. If you look at today, or yesterday, or a seven day history of countries and a seven day history of total views, it should closely match. All time will not.

Totally agreed, but, once those things are available, one expects them to be consistent. According to your answer, and the concept behind pageviews and visitors, they are, and I don't have further issues on that.

So, to end this thread, I would only add that pageviews per country seem to be only available in today's views by country, in My Stats main page.

I think this answers my question in a very precise way, since visitors are not the same as pageviews, as you told. Thanks for the objective answer.

But the best suggestin for you is not to bother yourself much about it.

The new geo-stats feature is an excellent new addition. Even allowing for precise country IDs / other accuracy issues, it's a most interesting general indicator of a blog's 'constituency' - I certainly found a few surprises... Like it a lot!

I'm aware of the existence of unknown readers, and 30% seems to be a fair ammount, although still a little bit higher in my case, according to my Revolver maps stats: of a 3,079 hits, only 16 are from unknow readers, as you can see in this picture.

According to the numbers I showed in my first message, then I would have around 80% of unknown readers, which is clearly not the case, when you look at my Revolver map statistics.

(Please, take notice that I'm not complaining about the difference between Revolver Maps and WP stats: I'm pretty aware that they will never match, and I know why. My issue is exactly what I stated in my first message, and Revolver Maps here is only to give an idea of the geographycal distribution of this huge audience I have)

The difference is readers where the country cannot be determined. According to Sitemeter, about 30% of my readers are from "unknown".

I have suggested WP include the count for reconciliation purposes on another thread.

First, thanks for the new country stats feature, either for implementing the concept itself as for how it is presented.
Well done.
However, country stats totals don't match with blog total stats.
At the "My stats" main panel, so far, I have a total of 2,693 views, as shown in this picture.
However, when I look at the "Views by country" summaries page, "All time" view, it shows only a total that's around 500 at most, as you can see in this other picture.

Why?
