The FAQ sticky as well. :)

They log in via the home page at WordPress.com, or either their blog or your blog via the login link. When the visit your blog, they'll have a link that says "Site Admin" or have a "Write Post" link in the toolbar.

Hope this helps,

From mi blog hosted in wordpress.com (web), I create a new user with the role of author in the menu AUTHORS & USERS and ADD USER FROM COMMUNITY. This user is a registred member of wordpress with his own blog (another one).
This author is added in my list of users (User List by Role. But getting in the blog, I can't see how this author can log in (log in META connect to his own blog), write or post one text item in my blog.
Thanks.
