I'm wondering if setting up a custom menu in your horizontal navigation bar with a ldirect link to your website would not be better for you. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
This article may also help > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/06/17/custom-menus-arrive-at-wordpress-com/

Thanks for the prompt info timethief,
although what I actually meant was how to create a link to my internet site rather than to a place within the blog itself, ie someone clicking on the url in my contacts page where I've listed it would be taken direct to my website where they could see more of my work?
If this is possible of course, but I will check out the support page you mention.
cheers!

I've just set up a 'Contacts' page on my blog (pretty new to this) and would like my main web address to be a live link
