Thanks for your help timethief, it's a shame it's not possible to the custom headers for dynamic pages.

I'll try to think of some other method, perhaps setting up another blog or even a tumblr that I can link to through a menu item.

Thanks again for your help and patience!

There are many common errors, misunderstanding and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

I posted what's possible. Categories pages are dynamically created by the sotftware when we publish a post. We cannot edit them at all.

Thanks timethief,

but I think you still don't quite understand my question.

I've created the categories with a custom menu to separate posts into two separate "streams" of posts.

What I'd really like is for a different header image to display for each category or "stream".

The theme settings you describe only allow for custom header images on particular static pages.

As all my blog posts are hosted on the same static page, separating them by category through the custom menu route means that the header image is the same for both (the one that is set for the static page where all posts are sent).

Ideally I'd like assign custom header images to the categories.

I hope I'm making my question clearer this time, sorry that I've been doing such a poor job of it thus far :)

Thanks for your help~

With custom header images, you can display your own photo on your blog’s page headers. Featured images allow for even greater customization, giving you the option to display unique custom header images for specific posts and pages. An image that is at least 1000 x 288 pixels will be displayed instead of the post with a title over the image.

Thanks for your reply - I've managed to create the two different categories, using precisely the methods you've described.

My question is can I assign a different header image to each category of posts?

You need to assigna unique category your posts, if you haven't already done that, and you need to create a custom menu, to which you'll add that category.

Hi there,

I'm trying to separate posts on my blog into two "streams" of posts. I've managed this using the custom menu option and assigning posts with categories.

My question now is, is it possible to display a custom header image for each of these category pages?

Currently both "streams" display the header image assigned to the static page where all posts are sent. (The two streams on my site are on the menu under "Danger Zone" and "Blog")

Thanks for your help~
