@ fossielenlive, why not put your even announcements on a static page instead of in posts? Then it is just a matter of editing that page and deleting the older events. That way it will not create 404 errors and the search engines will stay happy.

I understand what you mean now. There's no way to auto-delete posts after some time. However, you can manually delete posts for out of date job listings in bulk or one at a time.

Hi,

Sorry for not following the rules.
This is the link: http://logistiekjobs.wordpress.com/

I was looking into the possibility of making a small jobsite with wordpress. That is the reason why I would like to automatically delete posts after some time. But a redirection to a page that states that this job is no longer online would be very appropriate. Hope this helps.

@christophe
Please understand that I'm 100% with TSP and raincoaster on this. I would never consider linking to a blog that where the practice was to delete posts that were 30 days old.

There is no limit to the number of posts you can have in a free-hosted wordpress.com blog. Consequently, it ought to make no difference to you at all that the old posts are still there. There is no "automatic way" to set the software up delete 30 day old posts. Also just so you don't get sidetracked and forget raincoaster asked for your blog link, every time you post to the forum you must provide the complete url for the blog you are referring to starting with http://

ok, thanks

But if this is old info, that is not relevant anymore. Can I redirect to another standard page within my website that states for example: This event is over, but please check out our other events? Or do search engines hate this as well.

Is it doable?

Thanks

From a search engine standpoint deleting articles after 30 days is a really, really, really bad idea as the links to those articles in the search engines will then lead to "404 file not found pages" and search engines absolutely HATE 404 errors. Also, anyone who happens to link to one of your deleted articles from a post on their site suffers as well since it will create a broken link on their site. Again, that will make the search engines cranky toward the other person's site.

If you do what you are proposing to do, after a short while, the search engines will quit indexing your site due to all the 404 errors. I've seen it happen. I've had people contact me on that very issue and ask me to clean up the aftermath, and it's a long drawn out process taking about 4-6 weeks.

Finally if you follow through with this, do not expect a high placement in search engines, and do not expect high page ranking.

Hi,

I would like to add new articles to my site, but make sure that they are deleted automatically after (lets say) 30 days. Is this possible with a wordpress.com site?

This goes also for the articles that are written by authors.

Thanks
