I can't remember where I saw it now, but I definitely recall reading somewhere that MU doesn't use Smarty anymore and that the website hasn't been updated to reflect that (it wasn't included in the wordpress.org redesign, at any rate).

I don't think there's any way that Phu's recent themes could have been added so quickly if they'd all had to be converted to Smarty first.

ive used the contact form on automattic anyway.

In my opinion it looks alot nicer than some of the other themes available on wp.com, and surely choice is a good thing.

I am biased though.

Actually, that information is out of date. It used to be the case, but when donncha's fork b2++ was merged with wordpress to create wordpress mu Smarty templating was abandoned.

Hmm, that's strange actually. Still listed on the website as such. I'm on a terminal today so I can't download anything to check it out.

Templates are done differently on WordPress Mu - using the smarty engine.

Actually, that information is out of date. It used to be the case, but when donncha's fork b2++ was merged with wordpress to create wordpress mu Smarty templating was abandoned.

I believe there are a couple of other mu-based hosts out there using Smarty (such as blogsome) but wordpress.com isn't one of them. WordPress.com uses standard wordpress themes edited to incorporate .com-specific features such as widgets.

Its been fairly popular, a good few thousand downloaded in total, but I just havent updated it specifically for WP2 as it seems to run fine.

You should also visit the WPMU site http://mu.wordpress.org/. Templates are done differently on WordPress Mu - using the smarty engine.
If you do the grunt and convert it to right format - there is more chance of getting it adopted.

If a number of users request your theme here or through feedback, it is reasonably likely to get added. If it's been knocking around for a while and isn't wildly popular, I don't rate its chances.

Nobody has to come and ask you for anything, seeing as how virtually all WP themes are GPL. Any necessary tweaks will be done by the admin team, and if you don't like their changes that's kind of your tough luck.

You should try to get in touch with the WP.com developers. They don't check these threads too often. Check out automattic.com for contact info.

How does this work?
Do I offer you my theme?
Do you have to come and ask me for it?
Do I have to recode it for wp.com (should it need recoding), or do you?
