No you can't do whatever the bleep you want

There is no upgrade at WordPress.COM that will let you do Adsense - period end - you still need to observe the terms of service - no selling your own ads - no affiliate links and so on -

My title seemed to spell it out, and I realize to all the wordpress admins who are heaving a big sigh and a holy sh%$ to yet another question about adsense....but I signed up for this thing because my brother, the genius, told me that I could make money with adsense and that I could also host on wordpress...so if I buy my own domain, will it still be HOSTED on wordpress, thus not changing the big fat NO to adsense, or is it now my own site so I can do whatever the bleep i want with it?

Another question, since so many people want to add adsense on to their wordpress sites, why doesnt wordpress bend their decision? A lot of people prefer wordpress to blogger.com...but times are tough and everyone and their mother is starting some kind of entrepreneurial venture online now to make a buck. WordPress maybe should take that into consideration or they could lose their following and fast.
