No, slug is different, that is the very end of the URL of the post (the part where the post title is in the URL). Typically when you activate new items from the screen options they will be put clear down at the bottom below all the other things below the text area. Scroll all the way to the bottom and you should see an excerpt module if you have it checked at screen options.

Hi thanks for quick response must have been over every other button, lol. I got most of the missing boxes but not excerpt is this the same as slug?

While on the edit post page, go to the upper right, click "screen options" and check the appropriate boxes.

Hi i am very much a newbie but am learning through lynda.com and I see these two boxes on the bottom of their edit post page but they are missing on mine. I have been through settings trying to see whether it is something I have not turned on. Any ideas much appreciated.
