There's always a learning curve involved when we are new to something. To succeed one has to recall that it's the tortoise who finished the race; the hare does not cross the finish line.

Is it possible to find Blogs on, for example, travel without having a particular URL.

Yes. Use wordpress.com search, Topics search and Google search. See above.

want to set up my own Blog on Cruising but do not know how potential readers can find me.

They find you the same ways that you find them. That's why commenting on posts in similar blogs and meeting bloggers with similar interests in social networks is important.

The WordPress.com search engine indexes post, pages, and comments content (body text). Unless entered as text in those contents, blog name, post titles, and post/comment author names are not indexed. http://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpresscom-search/

For Google searches use this format and replace "keyword" with whatever word you wish:
keyword site:wordpress.com/

Example search string
Queen Victoria site:wordpress.com
results > http://tinyurl.com/csaobsx

For Topics (Tags page) searches see http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/

Hi there,
I can help with this. See: Find Friends Who Use WordPress > http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2012/05/01/find-friends/

1. You can set up email subscriptions by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

2. If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts see here >
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/more-traffic-for-your-blog-with-the-follow-button/

3. You can also set up a secure contact form.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

Social networking is strictly give to get. It takes months of posting frequently to attract viewers who will actually submit comments. The best way to get comments on your own posts is to leave meaningful comments on blogs with similar content to what's in your own blog. Set a goal of commenting on "X" number of blogs weekly and carry through.
