Now here's some more. If you do not wish to have your posts on your front page then what you can do is to create two static pages. One will become your "landing page" (front page). The other will be for your posts to appear on. After creating them you can designate them on this page > Settings > Reading

Your latest posts

A static page (select below)
Front page:
Posts page:

Can I do this with posts?

No.

The conventional structure of blogs is a post based structure which is displayed in reverse chronological order with the most recent post on top. An alternative structure is a book-like structure.

What’s critical is:
(1) a clear comprehension of the differences between pages and posts > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/
(2) a clear comprehension of the fact that there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. But we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.

We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.

A custom menu allows you to display Categories with drop-downs to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages with drop-downs to sub-pages and custom links in your custom menu as well.

Ahhh, bummer. Thanks for that though. :)

I guess in that case, I'm looking for a way to "sticky" a post so I have a "front" or "first" page, but also keep my menu on the left that I've created through the Appearance > Menus option. Which is basically a list of pages I've made. Can I do this with posts?

Yes that's exactly what he is saying. Posts and Pages are different. You can only make a post into a "sticky" post you can't do that with a page. Also note that there is no automatic way to convert a Page into a Post and visa versa. You have to copy and paste the text in the Page into a new Post and then delete the Page.

No, with pages just add whatever introductory text you want at the top of the page.
