I use A Small Orange and have been very happy with them. They are very reasonably priced, have great customer and technical support and have been super reliable. They have a "Tiny" shared hosting plan that will do most bloggers very nicely at $25 per year.

There is also recommended hosting over on the wordpress.ORG site.

i see it now. I have my wordpress.com blog so i buy the domain, that blog would transfer to the .org domain. I hope so.

If you hire a web host and set up a WordPress.org install then you can export content out of your free hosted WordPress.com blog and import it into your new WordPress.com install.

Upgrades, plugin and theme installations and upgrades can be done almost automatically, but you should know that the process, just like about anything in life, can sometimes break down and then you have to dig into things to fix the issue. In my experience, the process has been virtually painless, but I also end up fixing a good number of sites where things go wrong. It is part of how I make my living.

You are then completely responsible for your site. You have to do all installations, all upgrades, all backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it. Here at wordpress.COM, virtually all of that is handled for you so all you have to do is blog.

Also, do not think that flash will magically protect your images from theft. Anything can be gotten around.
