- right kick on the picture
- go to "edit"
- click "Resize"
- select "pixels"
- put size u want. ( about 500 pixel)
- save as.. (or Ctrt + S )

"Few pixels off" or "larger" won't do.

"When It was larger, the wordpress cropper should have made it fine". Not necessarily: depends on the aspect ratio.

If you wish, you can upload your original version via Media > Add New, then click Edit, copy the File URL and paste the URL here so I can see what you're talking about.

The word "cropped" in the image name shows that the original was not 940x198 pixels.
