They are two different things.

You have to insert your images in your post after uploading by using the Gallery feature in order for them to show up as mosaics, if you've ticked the box under Media Settings to set the mosaic as the default display for your posts using the Gallery feature.

Will this change old post formats into this new cool gallery? Or only new posts?
