if i could use my wordpress site as an online shop aswell as a medium to reach my target audience. I've had a quick look around on the net and youtube and have found some info but im still not 100%

What you found on the internet applies to self hosted WordPress.org installs so know this form the outset - WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different. Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds, http://www.wordads.co/ no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com

If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality beyond this, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on e-commerce if you set up a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

I have started a new business and need to get on the web. WordPress was reccommended to me so i thought id give it a go.
