What you found on the internet applies to self hosted WordPress.org installs so know this form the outset - WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and different. Please read this so you are clear on the differences and can make an informed choice > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds, http://www.wordads.co/ no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/
http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/affiliate-links/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/suspended-blogs/
http://en.wordpress.com/tos/

On free hosted WordPress.com blogs we can use a contact form and/or a PayPal donation button for sale of only products or services created or provided by ourselves.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

If you do require an ecommerce site, shopping cart, advertising and/or affiliate links you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org

While you can sell your work on your blog, no blogger initiated advertising, retailing, or reselling of work created or services provided by other people is allowed on WordPress.com.

This link will give you instructions for using a Paypal button on your blog:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

If you require e-commerce/shopping cart functionality beyond this, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions on e-commerce if you set up a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

Please see this link to learn about the differences:
