Try going to the Dashboard > Posts > Add Posts page. Look around and you will see categories.

Until there is a published post in any Category there is nothing that can be displayed in the Categories widget or on the dynamic Categories pages.

As your blog is set to "private" we Voilunteers cannot see it and cannot determine which aspect your are having issues with. If you need more help than what I posted then change that setting to public please > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
