Are my email subscribers the same as my followers.

Your subscribers are those who subscribed to your blog or individual posts via email. I can move those over if you move your blog to a self-hosted installation of WordPress.org and install the Jetpack plugin. Those readers who follow your blog via WordPress.com Reader cannot be transferred at this time, but then follow your new blog.

Can Suburbia be migrated to my new WordPress.org, again with the subscribers and all the comment history?

Themes designed for WordPress.com can only used on WordPress.com. However, there exists a version of Suburbia for self-hosted WordPress blogs, you can check it out here: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/suburbia/

Note that the theme, the subscribers, and the comment history are all different (independent) parts of you blog. You will need to install a theme of your choosing at your new host. For subscribers, I can move over email subscribers for you as described above if you install the Jetpack plugin and connect it to WordPress.com. More about Jetpack: http://jetpack.me

As for the comments, you can export them as part of exporting your site. See here for more information on moving to WordPress.org: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

Also, I've been playing with the WordPress.org that I just uploaded to my hosting at Network Solutions. The templates seem very limited. Can Suburbia be migrated to my new WordPress.org, again with the subscribers and all the comment history?

I'm deep into a redesign and your early response is very much appreciated.

Thanks once again!

Hi Jenia,

Are my email subscribers the same as my followers. It is my followers that I want to migrate. Looks like I will be hosting at Network solutions. My template is Suburbia. I'm not asking you to move anything yet. Just not sure of my next steps. Can you please advise?

Thanks,

Richard

But for the life of me a can't find a Plugins directory.

We don't allow plugins on WordPress.com for security reasons. Plugins are a feature only available for self-hosted blogs provided through WordPress.org: http://support.wordpress.com/plugins/

For information on the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, please see: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

While you won't be able to have a forum on your WordPress.com blog, you can either use posts as a form of a forum, encouraging users to post comments, or you can create a forum elsewhere, and link to it from your blog.

I do not want to loose my subscribers and that is my fear.

We will be happy to migrate your email subscribers for you, if you do decide to more to WordPress.org - just post a request and we'll do it for you. This guide will step you through the process of moving your blog to a WordPress.org instance:

I cannot find the Plugins directory. I am working to install bbPress to create a forum. All say it is compatible with WordPress. But for the life of me a can't find a Plugins directory. The tutorial show it just under the appearance tab. I'm guessing that is because I am not self hosting or using the WordPress.org software. I do not want to loose my subscribers and that is my fear. Can you explain WordPress.org software a little better. And do you have a solution for me in needing to create a forum?

Thanks,
