It's simple and effective. However, it also kind of defeats wp.com's purpose!

I was surprised to see the new page.

But I wonder how many people do log in through the wp.com homepage? I think new people seeing that array of very interesting photos would be tempted to investigate wordpress.com further though.

However…
It is a bit distracting when one is trying to type in an unfamiliar password. I also wonder how fast it loads on slower connections? It did seem a bit slow to me anyway.
