In order to have only a snippet show up on your main page, either switch to a theme that does this automatically or use the More tag, the one that looks like a dotted line across a sheet of paper.

Overall, however, using the MORE tag will increase your stats for individual posts but overall decrease the number of your posts that get read.

It's really killing my stats because I'm not sure what people are reading since they read it off of the home page half of the time
