I got some clarification - the sidebar pulls out the attached image, so if the image isn't attached to that specific post, it won't show up. An image becomes attached to a post if you upload it directly to that post. Images can't be attached to more than one post.

In terms of your new problem, could you please let me know exactly which part of the right-hand column isn't updating correctly?

When I look at the list of most recent posts, the first one I see listed is the one titled "Nevada Desert Blues: Loss" - which does seem to be your latest post.

I now have a new problem, which is that the right column is stagnent, i.e. not updating at all, even with a new post!! Yes, the original was posted earlier this month, with a different featured image. I recently edited the featured image, substituting one of the gallery photos for the original featured image. But after updating the edit, the featured image disappeared from the right column of photos even though it appears in the column below the post.

The new "featured image" now doesn't display in the right hand column of photographs. It does, however, display in the the bottom column.

I've had this problem before. I don't often change my mind about the featured image but sometimes after I see the way the photo looks in the right hand column, I want to make a different choice. Thanks!
